The national ice hockey team of Kyrgyzstan will compete for the promotion to the IIB division of the IIHF World Championship. This year’s Division IIIA tournament is being held in Istanbul from April 21 to 27.
Six teams are participating in the championship: Turkey, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Luxembourg, South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the first two game days, the main favorites of the tournament were determined. The national team of Kyrgyzstan won two confident victories over South Africa (5:1) and Luxembourg (6:0), and Turkmenistan turned out to be stronger than Bosnia and Herzegovina (3:1) and sensationally outplayed the hosts Turkey (2:1).
Thus, two Central Asian countries are in the lead after two rounds of the championship with 6 points in the piggy bank. The winner of the IIIA division championship will be promoted to IIB division next year.
On April 24, at 13:00 Istanbul time, Turkmenistan will play against Luxembourg, and Kyrgyzstan will play against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
