Last week, the Superfinal of the KHL 3×3 Championship took place on the second ice of the CSKA Arena. 3×3 hockey is an actively developing format of the game on a smaller court (34×18 m), with fewer players in the teams and increased intensity
Ak Bars and Salavat Yulaev met in the final game. In 21 minutes, only two goals were scored, and one of them came after a penalty shot. The champion was determined only in a shootout, where the players from Ufa gained victory (1:2 SO).
Following the results of the tournament, Ak Bars goaltender Alexey Lazushin was recognized as the best goalie of the KHL 3×3 Championship. Last season, the goaltender took part in 46 matches, gained 34 wins and played three clean sheet games.
KHL President Alexei Morozov commented on the results of the season, which turned out to be an experimental one for the league.
– A completely different format in the 3×3 game, non-classical. You can see, if you look at the first games of the season and the Superfinal matches, that the teams already have their own system, the schemes are emerging, stars are appearing, shootout masters, who implement shootouts, veterans put a winning point on shootouts. It was very interesting, for me it’s such a gambling hockey game, not at all like the classic one, which is why it attracts a completely different audience.
