Today, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the XIII Conference of Ministers of Culture of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries, it was decided that Kazan would become the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2026. The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, announced this in his Telegram channel.
The application for the status of the cultural capital of the Islamic world was presented at the conference by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan Irada Ayupova. She noted that Tatarstan is one of the Russian centers for the preservation of Islamic culture, the press service of the ministry reported.
It should be noted that this year the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan has the status of the cultural capital of the Islamic world.
