On May 21, Ak Bars lost to Lokomotiv in Game 6 of the Gagarin Cup Finals. The clash at Tatneft Arena ended in a 3–2 victory for the visitors.

The series marked the 10th final appearance in the Ak Bars history. On their road to the finals, the club finished third in the Eastern conference during the KHL regular season. In the playoffs Ak Bars beat Traktor (4–1), Dinamo Minsk (4–0), and Metallurg Magnitogorsk (4–1).

Notably, 17 of the 35 players on Ak Bars’ roster progressed through the club’s development system, while 12 of them are graduates of Tatneft’s ice hockey vertical and the club’s academy.
